| Seafield
was built in 1946 in Banff, Scotland by Watts of Macduff boatbuilding
company. She is built of larch planks on oak frames.
She was originally named 'Seafield' after a local Scottish Laird and was
originally employed in the Scottish herring fishing industry and it's
post-war development.
She was later converted to a prawn trawler and fished from both Scottish
and North Eastern English ports.
She was sold out of fisheries in the late 80s and was purchased by a group
of Bristol businessmen who converted her to a 'live aboard' private vessel.
In 1989 she revisited Banff when the engine and gearbox were completely
rebuilt.
She was later purchased by a Scottish couple from the West Coast with
the intention of using her as a charter boat. She was renamed 'Kyle Rona'.
She was then sold to Mr Jack Brennan in January 1995 and was sailed to
Whitby. She was renamed 'Mermaid' after the mermaids carved on two oak
pillars in the main saloon. She underwent extensive modernization and
work in order to comply with MCA requirements and operated as a charter
fishing vessel out of Whitby until 2003. The engine, gear box and steering
system were completely renewed in order to produce the most economically
and easily operated vessel of her kind.
We bought Seafield in May 2003 and renamed her under her original name.
In August 2003 we delivered her from Whitby to Fiumicino near Rome, Italy
where we undertook work to make her into a more comfortable live-aboard
boat for the three of us and the cat! Seafield has been based in Menorca
since April 2004.
